Cancer of the Wallet
It broadens my understanding for the need of financial freedom when I encountered the phrase ‘cancer of the wallet”. This is way beyond going broke and as a matter of fact nothing diminishes health like it. Financial literacy is a must for anyone that desires to increase in wealth and as well known we were not taught in school neither will our children be. Along the way you need to get the education that matter to your future. Becoming financially free doesn’t come easy as freedom itself isn’t free; there is always a price to pay, it is however attainable. There are diverse path to attaining this height. The one path that informs this piece is ‘Investment’. It is conversely not the only vehicle but one which is dynamic and capable of sustaining itself overtime.
As I write this, I challenge myself to this best practice. Meddling your way to poverty is taking a job, feel comfortable and start living from paycheques to paycheques, when dissatisfaction sets in you look for another job that can pay better to meet you rising expenses; the major question is for how long can this continue? There is more to life than aspiring to the next pay day, there is no way true satisfaction can come from such a way of living. This is putting the control of your finances in the hands of another with your eyes wide open. In my short life I have seen people who have missed it and I see its not so pleasant. Most of my peers may not be said to be rich or poor yet as the stake for us now is getting a job but the future will definitely create a clear distinction. No doubt I am guilty of this as an employee and that is why I challenge myself daily, it all depends on what we do today to ensure a safe tomorrow. The significance of our effort today is in the future we work towards and hope for,; knowingly or otherwise, what we do today largely determines what becomes of us tomorrow. Getting a job is a fantastic leap, what comes in the process and there after is what counts. This is what I fight with everyday; to become rich is a choice that must be backed with action capable of making your income generate even more income – investment.
I like you to answer this personal question, it is however not so personal because the answer reflects in our lives; what is it that constitutes your cashflow and how dynamic are the combinations? Wealth in my opinion is a by product, just like happiness and peace which are also by products of wealth (depending on the source of your income). It is a futuristic chain reaction; it is the manifestation of what we are engaged in today. If it yields income that covers your expenses – overtime you become rich and then wealthy by those excesses, more so this is not in isolation. Physical impact also counts, you cannot be said to be rich without any meaningful impact in the lives of people around you, your wealth must wet others, your life should be worth emulating. You cannot have so much without giving and be comfortable; reason why companies engage in social responsibility. If they claim ignorant of the environment in which they profit and reside; rebels will reside with them to hurt them and business will not be as usual; same for individuals. There is need to give back, which in itself is a form of investment.
It seems complicated; surprisingly the reason people relax their nerves and strive to be comfortable with paycheques or living for the moment. Truth be told cancer of the wallet impedes peace and happiness which invariably affects health. This is something uprising stars and young dynamics of our business world must break from. If you agree with me entrepreneurs rule the world; this is not to say we must all have a product, business or idea to sell or to say keeping a job is such a bad thing to do, what is important is how we control our income, can you actually live a month without spending your salary for that month? Are you trained to see opportunities and take calculated risk? Are you on top of your financial matter? Best be, because nothing can guarantee your financial freedom than the actions you take today while you are working.
Shalom!
