Morals from Parable of the Pipeline

Much has been said about the parable of the pipeline; this write-up is to sum up the last two posts. As well communicated and easy to understand, in simple words it deals about building investments now that would bring returns for you regardless your inputs in the future. Bucket carriers refer to those who depend on their job instead of using that as a leap to seek for a greater life. Majority of us eventually starts like ‘Pablo’ in the article – getting a job is a good leap and an opportunity to start with, a large percentage of people working are not happy with their jobs, some stay put, while others that are very unsatisfied see the need to get another job or work towards getting promoted (getting bigger buckets), while few care to build a pipeline, which involves a lot of risk and sacrifice. The few group is what I challenge you to join by bringing this series of articles to you; frankly speaking I have come to that point were I believe there are no dream jobs anywhere, they all seem fantastic beaming with opportunities and enticement, but what happens when the bucket dries up? Oh! Never thought of that… as in the article ‘all buckets eventually dry up’. You will lose your job someday either by preference or compulsorily, what happens then?
It challenges me to think a time like that would come; it would be foolish not to prepare for it because the probability of its occurrence is 100%. You cannot afford not to be enterprising and think beyond your current place of work. There would be a time to make tough decisions in life like retiring when your responsibilities are not any less, time to get to yourself by yourself and make things happen. When all the expenses catered for by the company you use to work for are now borne by you without anticipating monthly pay, what happens then? How be it that you are not prepared, now that retirement is not in view is the time to make plans for it, think of building pipelines instead of carrying buckets without plans.
There are people who are redundant in their places of work and would be laid off soon because they have become incompetent doing the same thing overtime. Their 30 years of work experience have been summed up to merely 2 years experience repeated 15 times. No improvement on their person and no tangible impacts. At old age are still struggling to give life a meaning. If you are reading this article it shouldn’t be for you, there should be an impact in your life going by the decisions we make per time. The concept of the parable of the pipeline teaches to us to build more assets and not liability, it endorses investments as the way out, teaches time management and discipline in diverse manner. In developing ourselves from the motivational books we read, the inspirational tapes we listen to, our experiences, the shared experiences of others, seminars attended and of course the various degrees and certification we have obtained are meant to enhance better living and not just to enhance better job search. My approach to life is: get a job, (be productively engaged, not necessarily working for someone) learn fast, build assets and retire on time.
Getting a job is foundational to learn and not just to earn, it is the factor that lifts most people; learn how to behave in a work setting, how to get things done, develop vital skills and from there implement a nurtured niche of interest, fly with it and make meaningful impact at life. My counsel is; don’t wait until retirement age before you leave that job, leave when you can still use yourself not when the company has exhausted you. Have a plan and challenge yourself to the plan regardless of situations because there is never a time that is perfect to do anything, you just have to discipline yourself by your stated goals in life.
The thought of pipeline building is walking with a vision. You can never be comfortable carrying such thought, it is beyond getting huge 6 digits as take home pay, even at that your desires would still not be satisfied. In relation to the above concept I would preach Entrepreneurship which is a message we hear often but not as preached, am not referring to the petty traders along road side, am referring to a mindset that is developed to perceive opportunities. To be enterprising is a vital skill to cherish; it puts you on edge and makes you versatile, taking calculated risk with the awareness of flying opportunities each day.
I believe fire is already burning in your heart as regards this issue. I like to stop here to think more on this for I am also challenged by every word written in this post. For some of us it is a new concept, some might have ideas, while others may not know what pipeline to build. Part of the aim of this blog is to share opportunities which we can explore; note that it can come from both ends, I can be reached by clicking HERE. We need to bind ourselves together to attain greater heights, I believe in you.
In conclusion I like to tender an apology; I have not been writing too often, issues of life especially with the one I am facing with this site getting attack reports and other time factors. There is never a perfect time to do anything actually, to keep this blog I have to continuously challenge myself because it’s a passion I believe in, also appreciating every single comments from readers, your comments keeps me going, I really appreciate. The first half of this year has been indeed great, looking forward to greater expectations in the next. God bless.
